Time Is Ticking Far Too Slowly

Hello, my name is Cate Maslan. I am a 12 year old girl from Vail, Colorado. I have been given the wonderful opportunity to go on a service trip to Nicaragua! I will be going on this trip with a local nonprofit organization called Children's Global Alliance, or CGA. Children's Global Alliance takes kids ages 12-16 to four different countries: Tanzania, Cambodia, Nepal, and Nicaragua. On these trips CGA helps the student volunteers on the trip to develop their character and learn more about the world around them where there are people struggling to survive to the next day, unlike here, where we are all so fortunate.

I will be going to Nicaragua where I will be working at Escuela Especial Sor Maria Romero, a school for children that are disabled. My Nicaragua team and I will clean the school as well as work as teachers assistants in the classrooms. We will also have the opportunity to go on home visits where we will visit the students and learn what their living conditions are like as well as what their stories are and what they have been through.

In order to go on this trip, I will be responsible for raising $1,500 and doing 10 hours of community service. My trip is scheduled to take place over spring break in April. This all may sound like a lot of work, but anything would be worth it to go on this trip. Not only will I get to see amazing and beautiful things, but I will have the opportunity to meet and bond with kids that live  a completely different life than I do. This is an opportunity that very few people get and I am so blessed to be a part of it. I am thrilled beyond belief and time is ticking far too slowly until the moment I step off the plane and the real journey begins. I hope you will keep following my blog to see my progress leading up to the trip as well as my amazing experience in Nicaragua. Thank you!
